For years I thought a laptop lifestyle meant digital marketing. Social media. YouTube. Being an influencer. I watched people build that life online and tried to find my version of it. Nothing clicked. I started to wonder if that kind of freedom was simply not meant for someone like me.
I was wrong about what the lifestyle looked like — not about whether I could have it.
My father passed away when I was 19. My brothers and I flew home from overseas and took over the family garment manufacturing business. We had a good run. Then 1999 came, the Asian financial crisis hit, and my expansion strategy failed completely. Everything was gone.
The years that followed were spent trying to find what came next. New ventures. Working for others. Insurance. Nothing stuck — not because I lacked capability, but because none of it felt like mine.
In 2006 I rebuilt through a consignment franchise. Sixteen years of systems, inventory, staff, suppliers, and the daily reality of keeping an operation alive. I learned how businesses actually break — and how to fix them — not from a textbook, but from the inside.
Then that chapter ended too. And I was starting over again.
When AI arrived I didn't see a threat. I saw a co-creator that could finally keep up with how I think.
Within months I was building things I had no business building — costing engines, quotation tools, dashboards, document systems, live chatbots. What used to take a team of people and weeks of work, one person with a laptop and AI can now build in a weekend. The possibilities only stop when you stop asking.
I work from my laptop. I set my own hours. I solve real problems for real businesses.
My laptop lifestyle is co-creating with AI to solve problems — and helping others solve them too. Not managing social media for strangers. Not chasing viral content. Sitting down with a real operational problem, opening a laptop, and building the solution.
That's what I do. That's what I teach.
I built the entire Built by Sunday framework in one weekend. With AI as my co-creator. The positioning, the offer copy, the lead diagnostic, the AI closer — all of it, from scratch, in two days.
Not because I'm exceptional. Because the tools make it possible — and nobody had shown me that sooner.
Built by Sunday is what I wish had existed when I needed it most.
